Beech circled behind the net and stuffed a wraparound shot past Flyers goalie Robert Esche, who finished with 32 saves. Flyers goalie Antero Niittymaki could miss up to two months because of a hip injury sustained during practice Tuesday. An MRI revealed the torn labrum in his left hip, and Philadelphia general manager Bob Clarke said a decision on whether to operate would be made Wednesday. "If surgery is necessary, it will be six-to-eight weeks before he is back playing," Clarke said.

Philadelphia coach Ken Hitchcock signed a new three-year contract with the Flyers through 2008-09. Hitchcock, entering his fourth season, is 130-77-39 in the regular season with Philadelphia. He led the Flyers to the conference finals in 2004, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning, who later won the Stanley Cup.

Free-agent center Ryan Kesler signed a one-year offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. The Canucks can either match the Flyers' offer or take a second-round pick from the Flyers next year. Kesler, 22, had 10 goals and 13 assists in 82 games with Vancouver last season. In two seasons with the Canucks, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Kesler had 12 goals and 16 assists in 110 games.
